Located on a hill overlooking Paarl, with some of the most unique and beautiful views in the Western Cape, the Taalmonument was built to celebrate the Afrikaans language. Its location makes it the perfect venue for these full-moon picnics that take place throughout summer 2018.
Taalmonument full-moon picnics
You are free to bring your own picnic, or you can pre-book one up from Volksmond Coffee Shop (which is also open for drinks and light snacks all evening). The monument is open until 10pm, so if you are bringing out-of-towners with you, they might be interested in doing one of the guided tours, which take place at 6.30pm. No booking is required.
Remember to bring a torch and warm clothes. Unfortunately, no dogs, no fires and no smoking are permitted on the lawns. All picnics are in aid of the Taalmuseum’s reading project for children, Let’s Read! Visitors are encouraged to bring new or used children’s books to donate.
