Celebrate the season of joy and sharing.
Every year, the magic of Christmas is laid on, gourmet style, at the Taj Cape Town – the landmark hotel in the heart of the Mother City (across from the Company’s Garden and St George’s Cathedral).
This year, the hotel’s culinary team, under executive chef Surendra Kumar, has dreamed up two different Christmas feasts to choose from – inspired by the exciting atmosphere of carnivals and streetfood markets. While the accent is on Indian food, there is also an exciting global (and local) twist to the dishes on offer – as well as traditional Christmas favourites.
The meals, taking the form of bounteous buffets, can be enjoyed in glamorous Bombay Brasserie or at Mint Restaurant, which has terrace tables if you’d like to go al fresco. Whichever you opt for, you’ll enjoy your meal to the sound of a live band, in beautiful, sparkling, festive surroundings.
On Christmas Eve
Spice up the night before Christmas with a delectable buffet of 10 curries – from butter chicken and tandoor chicken tikka to Durban lamb curry, three different fish curries, paneer rasa and dal makhani. There is also roast beef sirloin from the carvery, plus starters (think spiced lentil dumplings and chickpeas with tamarind chutney) and salads. To end, desserts include kheer (rice and milk pudding), Christmas pudding and a gourmet cake station. All guests are welcomed with a complimentary glass of cap classique.

Prepare for a feast that celebrates the flavours of the world, with a Christmas lunch buffet that includes Italian, Asian, Tandoori/Indian, Seafood and Harvest sections. From grilled whole lobster and truffle mushroom pasta to dim sum and sushi, plus the best of the Taj’s Indian cuisine – including Mint’s famous dosa, tandoori dishes and two biryanis – there’s a bounty to choose from. Local tastes include Malay mussel salad, kudu carpaccio, smoked ostrich and Durban lamb curry, and the carvery features roast turkey, glazed gammon, leg of lamb and beef sirloin – with all the trimmings. To top it all off, there are no less than 27 sweet treats – from puddings, tarts and cakes to pastries, ice cream and matcha-infused gulab jamun (dumplings). All guests are welcomed with a complimentary glass of cap classique.
