Situated on the well-trodden Nuttall Road in Observatory, this wonderfully eclectic restaurant and bar is where locals have been going for over three decades to get their dose of tasty street food and wacky drinks. Thursday nights are particularly fun, as the Irish folk band – known as Cape Town Irish Session – provides an uplifting soundtrack of traditional tunes, that’ll make you want to get up and dance a jig.
Not much of a dancer? Then sit back and soak up the vibe of the old Victorian house, or get a table in the leafy courtyard, and order some snacks to enjoy while the band does its thing. (We have yet to taste them but are told the chilli poppers are mighty good.)
Symphony of Flavours
If you’d like to stay for dinner, booking is advised as tables (by the fireplace especially) are snapped up quickly. The butter chicken bunny chow with chips or salad is a popular favourite (as is the vegetarian option with chana masala).
#ThirstyThursday Every Thursday, A Touch of Madness has an all day and all night happy hour, with craft beer on guest tap going for R30 a pint. With 6 guest taps, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
