Unpretentious bistro food has been Lust Bistro’s winning formula since it opened in 2013, with a vast wood-fired oven baking up a storm of sourdough breads at night and pizzas by day, as well as a delicious family-friendly menu of classic and creative farm fare. At the heart of historic, family-owned Vrede en Lust wine estate (bordering the Simondium wine area of the Franschhoek Valley) it’s a popular stop for breakfast or lunch, before or after wine-tasting, with a wide terrace, grass and a jungle gym as well as beautiful gardens to wander.

Lust Bistro’s four-course brunch is the perfect way to while away a relaxed Saturday or Sunday. Kick off with smashed avo on their 60% rye toast, then tuck into a mouth-watering spinach, trout and chevre frittata. Next up is a mini pan of shakshuka – a spicy tomato and chickpea stew topped with pieces of boerewors and a perfectly poached egg, and served with fluffy ciabatta. Finally a creamy sweet coconut chia, with fresh mango and almond slivers. Why not add a refreshing mimosa or a zesty Bloody Mary to elevate your brunch experience?
