The light display at the Waterfront is surely one of the most exciting ways to welcome the New Year, against the backdrop of the harbour and Table Mountain. And the fact that entry into the Waterfront is free means you can partake in the festivities without breaking the bank.
The Waterfront will be open as usual on the last day of 2019, but once the sun sets, expect an immersive wonderland of glowing colours as various light installations come to life, illuminating the surrounding buildings and trees.
New Year’s cravings
Between celebrating the end of a decade and marvelling at the spectacular show of lights, satisfy your appetite and quench your thirst at the chilled V&A Food Market, where a plethora of delicious food and drinks await. Open until midnight, the market is home to more than 40 vendors offering everything you need to make your New Year’s Eve a grand affair. Fancy some oysters? Knysna Oster Bar has you covered. Feeling lavish? Grab some champagne from one of two fully stocked bars. Is your evening a family affair? Pizza from Nonna Lina has you sorted. Plus, there’s no need to book a table (or spend a fortune)!
Insider tip Nothing can put a damper of celebrations quite like struggling to find parking. We suggest taking an Uber or parking in perimeter areas, and taking a leisurely stroll across the Waterfront. There will be parking available at the carpark near Battery Park, with entrances on Albert Road and Dock Road, and you can walk towards the V&A.
Happy New Year!
