Four-day trail in the Overberg

Four-day trail in the Overberg Image: Paul Cluver Wines

An invigorating hike that includes farm stays, delicious food and great wine, to boot.

This four-day adventure takes place around the Groenlandberg (Green Mountain) in the lush Overberg region of the Western Cape. Each day hikers will cover between 11 and 18 kilometers along country roads and paths.

THE SETTING

With stunning views of fruit farms and fynbos, fresh mountain air and opportunities aplenty to spot wild animals and birds, this trail is a tonic for the soul. But hiking 18km is no mean feat, which is why the organisers encourage walkers to stop for breaks in the shade (and if the season allows, among the rock pools and dams for a much needed dip), while familiarising yourselves with the area’s history and rugged vegetation.

FIVE FARMS IN FOUR DAYS

Hikers can look forward to luxurious night stays at Porcupine Hills and Wildekrans Country House where breakfast and dinner are served (and included in the cost). Also on the cards is a tantalising farm picnic at Oak Valley Wine Estate, and wine tasting at Paul Cluver Wine Estate. A visit to Beaumont Wines and then a final lunch in Botrivier draws the wonderful adventure to a close.
