The Village Idiot

Village Idiot: The Best Loadshedding Restaurants
Laura McCullagh

From the duo behind Aces ’n’ Spades, this neighbourhood pub-style eatery just up the road attracts crowds by day and night, for all occasions. The large space is divided into a bar area that’s presided by an oversized ostrich named Oskar, lounge, dining area and pool(table) room. The spot absolutely hums in the evenings, especially on weekends, when both the dancefloor and outside balcony heaves with Cape Town’s most avid revellers, while the relaxed vibe during the day is just the thing to take the edge off a hard day’s work. And the food is surprisingly good!

Fresh, seasonal and sustainably sourced produce that’s lovingly prepared and beautifully presented is what you can expect from this quaint and always busy “café and pantry”. Wines and craft beer are also on offer. They will be unable to toast bread; but other than that, Four & Twenty is good to go for loadshedding.
