Muizenberg Restaurant: Tiger’s Milk

Muizenberg Restaurant: Tiger’s Milk

A chic beachside restaurant offering killer views, great food and stylish interiors.

Located on Muizenberg’s buzzy restaurant strip in the heart of Surf Central, this is the latest venture by restaurateur Michael Townsend, whose other wildly popular eateries include La Parada, Harbour House, The Polana, Lucky Fish & Chips, Sirocco and Live Bait.

The vibe

With its distressed face-brick walls, designer-rustic tables and benches, and on-trend yellow bar stools, Tiger’s Milk has certainly put Muizenberg on the Hipster Radar and blasted some much needed swagger into the lowkey surfing suburb.

It feels like it’s been designed for the surfing locals (there are change rooms and showers as well as cages for surfboards), but its appeal is much wider, attracting tourists and discerning Capetonians who are after good, satisfying food, killer views, and stylish surrounds. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors mean that the restaurant is always swathed in natural light, with a fresh ocean breeze sweeping through the restaurant, keeping diners cool. And because of its first-floor location, there are great views of the ocean from almost every seat.

The food

The simple menu provides  “guy grub” – designed to satisfy a post-surf appetite. On the Steaks menu, you’ll find rump, rib eye, sirloin, prime rib and T-bone (ranging between R97 and R160). The Farmer Angus free-range beef burger topped with bacon and cheese goes for R75. And there are lighter options, such as chicken, linefish and a salad of the day. We have yet to try the thin-crust pizzas (around R85 a pop), but we hear they are heavenly.

And drink…

The extensive drinks menu includes nine on-tap craft beers, classic cocktails, as well as Dry Land Collection wines.

Insider tip On Wednesday evenings, Lonesome Dave play the blues. His one-man blues show – during which he plays his harmonica over looped rhythms that he records live – never fails to elicit oohs and aahs.

Opening times Monday – Sunday, 11am – 2am (kitchen closes at 10pm)

Service really is shocking! staff behave like they are doing you a favour because they are so popular. always a long wait whether it be for a table, drink, food or bill, everything takes forever. no sense of urgency or customer service. and the fact that they are so popular means that they dismiss any form of complaint!

The service really is abysmal. The fact that the food IS good – when it eventually arrives, does little to diminish the irritation at the long wait. Also waited for THIRTY MINUTES for the bill. Should have left!

Service is shocking, booked a table and only got seated at it 1 1/4 hours after our booked time, not acceptable! In hind sight we should have left after 20 minutes but we kept thinking it can’t be long now.
