Cape Town’s cool corner, De Waterkant, recently welcomed a brand-new eatery: The Mess. Housed in the space formerly inhabited by Café Dijon, its owner Carlene de Gouveia has given it a fresh new look, with consultant chef Luke Wonnacott introducing an exciting new menu. In line with the de rigueur global trend of plate-sharing dining experiences, The Mess’s menu showcases an array of cuisines through its various courses, all of which are packed full of delightful flavours, work fantastically well side by side – and, most importantly, are designed to be eaten communally. The outside courtyard will be the spot on balmy summer evenings, with fairy lights strung up from the surrounding trees.
We recommend you whet your appetite with the yogurt and thyme flatbreads, confit of duck rillette, and pickled goat’s cheese. Ooh, and the lime-cured tuna ceviche! And for mains, you must share the pork belly.
