This cool after-work drinks spot, aptly named The Vic, is housed in a beautiful, restored Victorian building on Kloof Street that was the former home of Blah Blah Bar. Decor-wise, owner Jurie Blomerus (who also owns Striped Horse in Muizenberg) has injected his signature grunge-meets-Día de Muertos vibe into the venue, borrowing inspiration from the Victorian era, too.
The music The cool live music is probably what sets this place apart. “On Wednesday nights we have The Jam Stand,” says Jurie, “where a melting pot of local musicians play together – anything can happen on the night! Friday nights are all about vinyl – real music played by a real person – not a playlist.”
Sunday afternoons – B-sides & Rarities – sees the frontman (or woman) of a well-known band, taking to the stage and making the venue theirs for the day.
Sit outside in the street-facing courtyard, grab a seat at the bar, or get comfy on a velvet sofa while country and rockabilly tunes blare.
The grub Affordable and tasty as muck. The chicken prego with bang-bang sauce is a must; and the hake and chips is lip-smackingly tasty, and ridiculously priced at R65!
Inside info The back courtyard is still in session and will soon be revamped (we’re told hush-hush). All we’re giving away is that a vertical garden will add to the Zen vibe.
