Cape Town is ranked as one of the premier culinary capitals of the world, with a smorgasbord of culinary offerings appealing to Michelin inspectors and Jo(e) Soaps alike. And while the current lockdown regulations mean we’ll soon be able to dine out, some of us aren’t in a hurry to leave the comfort of our cocoons, especially when we can order in!

After nearly three months of cooking and eating (the same old boring) home-cooked meals, most of us relished the opportunity of ordering a meal from our favourite restaurants. Having a beautifully prepared feast delivered to your table, without having to lift a finger. Bliss…

About Before lockdown, this warm and sophisticated fine-dining restaurant co-owned by chef Peter Templehoff was undoubtedly one of the best dining experiences to be found in the city. The menu (and decor) is African-inspired, with an overarching Japanese aesthetic, making for an utterly seductive (and delicious) combination of tastes, flavours, textures and styles.
The food Opt for the FYN Family menu (R295 per person; minimum order: two people): country bread and fynbos butter; free-range Boran beef Wellington with truffle jus, roast carrots and shallots (all you have to do is turn on the oven). The main course is followed by a chocolate and hazelnut brownie with raspberries and yuzu crème fraîche.
There’s also the FYN Experience menu (R595 per person for five courses): California sourdough rye bread; Kaiseki-style starters of tuna tataki, seaweed rice salad and spicy chirizu sauce; perlemoen rice with citrus emulsion and spring onion ponzu; ham hock terrine, liver crémeux, Vin de Constance must jelly and pickled Jerusalem artichokes. The choice of main course (either sustainable fish or miso-roasted pasture reared chicken) is followed by a camembert cheesecake for dessert.
