It’s day 936 of lockdown in South Africa and one thing is certain: the round-the-clock meal prep is relentless! Whether you had kitchen skills before lockdown began, or you’ve had to do a crash course in cooking as a result of it, there’s still no denying that eating your own food, day in and day out, can get boring. After all, variety is the spice of life…
Which is where Joostenberg Deli comes in: one of our favourite farm kitchens is offering order-and-collect and order-and-deliver service for the duration of lockdown and after.
About the offering
Joostenberg Deli sources a range of seasonal produce from a variety of trusted local producers, many of whom are neighbouring farmers and purveyors. Items from their butchery include bacon, rashers, sausages, boerewors, mince, loin and neck chops, eisbein and spare ribs.
Brood maak groot, but we’re in isolation, so who cares? Baked goods include loaves, buns, granola, rusks and biscuits. I mean, what’s a bowl of soup, without a crusty piece of farm bread?
Homemade in Joostenberg’s kitchen, take your pick of ready-to-eat frozen meals, desserts, pâtés, sauces, relishes, jams, preserves and sweets.
On the groceries side, there’s dairy, eggs, seafood and a variety of dry goods, as well as basic and seasonal fresh fruit and vegetable boxes to choose from.
And, of course, after lockdown, Joostenberg’s wine sales will resume at cellar-door prices.

If you’re looking to help those in need, support Pebbles Project, an organisation that has a kitchen on Klein Joostenberg and does amazing work with children in the primary education sector in the Winelands.
Under normal circumstances, they prepare food for farm schools and crèches and, since lockdown, also for poor communities in Stellenbosch and surrounding areas.
Alternatively, you can make a donation on the deli order form. As little as R5 makes one meal.
