An innercity social club with loads going for it.
Coming for lunch and staying all day (and night) is par for the course at Misfits. This buzzy all-day dining hotspot in Green Point – the brainchild of Ideas Cartel – feels more like a social club than just a restaurant, with its old red-brick walls, eclectic décor of urban ephemera and comfortable seating (on Chesterfield sofas, leather booths and velvet chairs).
Inspired by some of the world’s legendary members’ clubs (without any stuffiness), Misfits is an out-of-the-box sanctuary, serving casual and delicious food, from breakfast bowls and sushi to pizzas, salads and small plates. Add to that a heap of experiences, and you’re all set for a weekend of pleasure.
Play it again
During lunch on Thursdays and Fridays, live piano music by resident artist Fay Lamour (and other regular artists) chills the vibe so much, that lunch easily stretches into after-work drinks. Once the sun goes down and you start thinking about dinner, a DJ might stroll in for a two-hour set. And if you really can’t tear yourself away, the Old Foundry Hotel, in Ideas Cartel’s signature urban-chic style, is right there for you to sleep up an appetite for breakfast.
A meal for every occasion
With plant-based smoothie bowls, flapjack stacks, full English and Eggs Benny, the breakfast menu covers all the bases from health-conscious freshness to delicious indulgence, bringing mimosas and cocktails for chilled weekend brunches.
Lunch is equally versatile, from spicy quinoa and chickpea bowls to BLTs and ultra-thin-based pizzas with gourmet toppings. Or hit the sushi menu – there are vegan rolls, too.
Meeting up with friends and colleagues in between? Grab coffee and a treat from the Naughty Corner – a sumptuous array of inventive cakes and pastries from the blossoming in-house bakery.
Look out for the regular wine-tasting evenings that segue into dinner. On the menu, you’ll find small plates such as edamame snack bowls, patatas bravas, lamb skewers and baked champagne brie and flatbread, as well as an array of casual bar eats such as burgers and beer-battered fish, hearty steaks, pasta, pizza and vegan dishes.
While away the weekend
Misfits may be the ideal meeting place for the working week, but it also has your weekend downtime covered. The leafy hidden courtyard is a relaxed setting for a lavish high tea – decadent tiers of cakes and sandwiches served with Truth coffee, Enmasse tea, Le Lude bubbles, or Inverroche Donna Rosa cocktails – to the soundtrack of live music.
Or have fun with the gin-and-ice-cream pairing experience – who would have thought those flavours go so well together? Gin aficionado? Find out about the three-hour workshop by the Inverroche Gin Academy where you can learn to distill your own.
An indoor golf simulator, table tennis and a friendly poker table (losers buy the winners drinks) will have you entertained for hours, so that Misfits becomes a veritable home-from-home in the city. Oh, it’s pet-friendly, so your pooch can hang out for cocktails, too.
Good to know The Shop of Mischief is a tiny boutique wine store stocking wine gems from lesser-known wine farms.
