Mykonos Taverna Newlands: Greek Food in the Southern Suburbs

The grand old institution brings its authentic Greek cuisine and family-friendly atmosphere to the southern suburbs.

Out with the Mexican, in with the Greek… Mykonos Taverna has opened in Newlands in the space formerly occupied by El Burro. Southern suburbanites craving calamari and keftedes literally broke into the sirtaki when they heard the news.

Brought to you by veteran restaurateur Dimitri Peroglou (owner of Mykonos in Sea Point) and his wife Vicky, the new addition will continue the proud traditions of the original and much-loved Sea Point branch, which was established by Dimitri’s father Peter Peroglou back in the 80s.

It’s all Greek to me: Mykonos menu

Guests know exactly what to expect when they turn up at one of Dimitri’s restaurants: lip-smacking Greek grub, from mezze to moussaka, seafood, skewers, souvlaki and kleftiko lamb shank (made with a family recipe passed down to Dimitri by his father).

Mighty Mykonos

Mykonos Taverna Newlands

Inside is a light, bright and airy space, with colourful chairs hanging on the main walls and traditional evil eyes on the other. As you’d expect of a Greek taverna, the atmosphere is vibrant and full of stimulating conversation. It’s clear the new Mykonos will bring the family-friendly dining experience of the original to leafy Newlands.
