Comfort food with a crunch.
The vibrant V&A Food Market has added yet another flavour-filled purveyor to its appetising array of attractions. Brought to you by Heinz and Kim McNulty, who have years of experience in the hospitality space, Plucky’s is an Asian-style street-food stall named for its morale-boosting mission in the face of Covid (and, of course, the main ingredient: chicken). Modelled on a 1950s American diner, Plucky’s is all about offering diners a unique market experience and, of course, finger-licking comfort food to eat!
Fried chicken with extra crunch
The stall has a diverse menu that includes vegetarian options such as Veg’n Bibimbap (mixed vegetable rice bowl) and Veg’n Bao (boa buns with deep-fried cauliflower), as well as breakfast dishes like Brekky Wrap (toasted tortilla filled with egg, chicken and cheese).
But it’s the Korean-style fried chicken, served in a number of ways, that people keep returning for. Order yours in a burger or wrap, or as a portion of chicken pieces with Korean sauce and, as the cliché goes, thank us later. Another winner is the KoreanBoager, a fusion between steamed bao and a burger, filled with buttermilk-marinated chicken, and served with Korean slaw and sauce.
The dessert options are just as moreish… Crispy Apple Donuts and Tater Waffles.
Make my market day
The V&A Food Market’s buzzy atmosphere is part of all dining experiences here; at Plucky’s, you have the added appeal of its diner-style design. Once you’ve got your fried chicken wrap with fries, head outside to the dockside, and enjoy your meal in view of Cape Town’s famous harbour.
Opening times Monday – Sunday, 10am – 6pm
