One of several restaurants that make the Old Biscuit Mill a happening spot.
French for “little sausage”, Saucisse is a family-run meat and cheese deli in Woodstock. Inspired by the boulangeries and charcuteries they visited during their travels to Spain and Italy, co-owners Amanda Lewis and her father Derrick decided to bring a slice of that back home, adding some proudly South African flavour.
The philosophy
“Food should inspire curiosity and experimentation,” says trained chef Amanda. “To ensure we stay relevant and keep our customers coming back for more, we strive to be at the forefront of industry trends.”
One such trend is the use of sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients. Saucisse’s know-your-farmer approach to selecting meat and other fresh underpins the deli’s entire offering.
The concept
Amanda believes that patrons don’t always want to be dictated to in terms of what they order, which is why they have a create-your-own-meal menu. Choose between a wrap, salad, platter or sandwich – gluten-free options are available – which you can then fill with locally cured ham, salami, beef, Happy Hog free-range bacon, freshly roasted free-range chicken, or one or more of the delicious cheeses on offer.
Caffeine addicts will be thrilled to discover that the deli lives next door to Espresso Lab (which featured on our Best Coffee in Cape Town list) – simply place your order and it will be delivered to you while you wait for your meal.
And another thing…
Saucisse is available for hosting private events such as birthday parties or office functions. It also offers catering services at your home or office.
