This oceanside restaurant and bar at the V&A Waterfront is a popular all-season hangout for city slickers seeking a scenic spot to eat, drink and get down.
Situated on a scenic strip of the V&A Waterfront harbour, Shimmy Beach Club is a popular lifestyle, event and dining destination, offering visitors a variety of tasty cuisines, refreshing cocktails, and a sizzling lineup of entertainment, with the sweeping Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop.
A sophisticated double-volume interior, which seats 220 guests comfortably, flows out onto a view-drenched deck and private beach, where two sparkling swimming pools and yacht-infested harbour views set the scene for sumptuous seaside sundowners, laidback lunches, decadent dinners, or vibey late-night tipples.
Pull up a seat in the spacious 220-seater restaurant (or open-plan sushi bar), and enjoy an array of no-nonsense dishes off the seasonal menu, which includes wood-fired pizzas, pasta, salads, burgers, delicious sushi, tasty dumplings, and much more.
Their recently launched summer menu – created by chefs Chef Lungile Ngwenya and Adrian Cook – features an array of ocean-inspired starters, such as fresh oysters, mussels, and crayfish avocado ritz, with lamb tortellini bringing in a Mediterranean flavour. Mains include Asian pork belly, sesame-seared salmon, T-bone steak, and seven-spice tuna espetada; with cold chocolate Malva, miso-salted caramel apple tart, and mini lemon meringue doughnuts rounding things off for dessert.
Come for lunch or dinner, and stay for the after-meal vibe, where flowing cocktails (think espresso martinis, Shimmy sherbets, strawberry margaritas, and elderflower gimlets), smooth DJ beats, and live entertainment are a given on any night of the week. There’s not one, or two, but three different bars to choose from – each featuring their own unique ambience.
There’s even a kids’ area
And, perhaps the most surprising feature of all is the supervised kids’ area, around the side, overseen at all times by at least one au pair. Plus, there’s a dedicated children’s menu.
So, put on your dancing shoes, round up the family, and head to Shimmy for a seaside experience.
