Since opening its doors in 2016, The Station has become part of the fabric of Bree Street – if you’re in the area, you have to check it out. It’s the place you go when you’re in the mood for comfort food, a drink with friends, or even a night on the town. Sit outside on the deck under a canopy of trees, or nab a nook inside and take in the London vibe – without the exorbitant exchange rate!

1. The food

Station On Bree Menu

Warning: the food menu is extensive. You will be so spoilt for choice, you won’t remember if you came in craving a burger or a taco. But, to help your decision-making process, we took one for the team and tried a few of the offerings and can highly recommend the Big Ben burger with cheese, bacon and caramelised onions; the classic Fish and Chips, and anything from the Spruced Fries list.

If you’re looking for a lighter bite, try the salt and pepper squid or the Abbey Road jalapeño poppers stuffed with chorizo, mozzarella and cheddar. There are only a few vegetarian options available, but you’ll be sure to find something that tickles your fancy between salads, fries, burritos and various tapas.

2. Gin galore

Gin Station On Bree

The Station on Bree has one of the biggest gin selections in Cape Town: a whopping 120 when we last visited. The nifty gin menu allows you to custom-create your own cocktail – pick your gin, decide on a tonic, and top it off with a garnish of your choice: peppercorns, thyme or citrus. If gin isn’t your thing, there’s a large selection of wine, beers and cocktails on offer.

3. Daily specials

  • Wednesday, R120 for any two burgers (with fries and onion rings)
  • Saturday, R180 tapas for two

4. The late-night scene

First Thursdays Bree Street

Every First Thursday, The Station on Bree heaves, but party people flock to The Station, as it’s one of the few bars that stay open late. Crowds really come together during the summer period between November and April when the restaurant closes a portion of Bree Street for their Upper Bree Street Market on the evening of the first Thursday of the month. A celebration of arts, crafts, food and live music, this is one First Thursday’s event that is not to be missed. Plus, entrance is free! On other days, The Station is always buzzing with late-night partygoers looking for tasty burgers and a good deal on drinks.

5. London town

The Station

Bringing a piece of London to the heart of the Mother City, The Station has taken themed restaurants to the next level, with “Mind the Gap” signage, iconic subway sounds, and expansive station maps that stretch across the ceiling. When you take a walk down the steps, you’ll be transported into a first-class 1950s cabin – perfect for hosting private events. Premier League fans are always welcome, as there’s sure to be a match televised on one of the big screens.

Final call for passengers headed to Bree Street!
