Fresh, seasonal and a cut above…
In a quiet side street in Sea Point, The Shop has been serving delicious, fuss-free (and seasonally driven) dishes since it opened in 2017.
Run by hands-on, energetic and passionate husband-and-wife team, Kyle and Gabi Knight (both qualified chefs who have worked in various countries), the 50-seater restaurant has one simple ethos: locally sourced, sustainable ingredients that produce knockout flavours.
With Kyle manning the kitchen, and Gabi focusing on the front of house, wine and dessert, the popular eatery offers a relaxed and delicious dining experience in a comfortable setting.
The simple menu changes regularly, and features a curated selection of fish, meat and vegetarian options. Chef Kyle knows where every ingredient in his kitchen comes from, which is evident in the flavours of each dish.
For starters, diners can expect the likes of crispy courgette flowers; tuna crudo with avocado wasabi; and grilled artichokes with aioli and broad beans. Main dishes include a duo of lamb with all the trimmings; and the fresh fish of the day with ratatouille and a light bisque, followed by sweet endings of strawberry parfait; cherry and almond tart; and crème brûlée.
Elevate your meal with a glass or bottle of one of the delicious wines on the curated winelist that features something for all palates.
And even though it’s only three-years-old, The Shop feels like one of those good old neighbourhood joints that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a charming borough in New York City, where the chef knows your name – and just how you like your favourite dish prepared.
