Upper Union Adds to the Culinary Buzz on Kloof Street
A new addition to Kloof Street’s burgeoning foodscape.
By Inside Guide • 05 December 2022
There’s about to be a new buzz on already buzzy Kloof Street. Chef Amori Burger opens Upper Union, a stylish eatery that is the More Family Collection’s first foray into the restaurant scene. Close to the More Quarters Neighbourhood Hotel, Upper Union is in a newly renovated heritage building on its name-sake Upper Union Street, and evokes a neighbourhood restaurant vibe that is all about sharing.
Sharing plates with global flavours
Amori is a graduate of Silwood School of Cookery, honed her skills at the pass of Joburg’s trendy Van der Linde, and then joined More at their Lion Sands safari property. She’s created a globally inspired menu of large and small plates to share, with punchy flavours and pot luck conviviality that will fit perfectly into Kloof Street’s eclectic culinary scene.
A relaxed neighbourhood vibe
Victorian-inspired stained-glass windows, mosaic, custom tiles on the five fireplaces and a design palette of emerald, black and white with brass and marble, create a space to meet and hang out in comfortable and relaxed style.
A cocktail menu designed by Just Short in collaboration with the kitchen team, and a winelist featuring small scale local producers sets the seal on what promises to be a new neighbourhood favourite.
