Situated at the Onyx Hotel on Cape Town’s bustling Foreshore, and named after the Japanese word for “excellence and leisure”, Yu Asian Tapas & Bar blends seamlessly with the property’s decidedly cosmopolitan feel.
Owned by Rory Jossel, whose long-standing passion for Asian fare prompted him to open a restaurant where he could share his love, Yu is home to a sophisticated tapas restaurant, a dimly lit sake bar, and a laidback lounge where young professionals gather for after-work (or after-dinner) drinks.
Tapas and tipples
Pull up a chair inside the inviting interior, decorated with warm wood textures and Japanese matchbox art, as you tuck into fine favourites of beef short-rib bao, prawn and butternut dim sum, soft-shell crab with sesame mayo, Peking duck, and a selection of sushi and poké bowls.
On the drinks menu, you’ll find Japanese craft beers and an exciting sake selection, while the hand-mixed cocktails, featuring flavours such as yuzu, soju, coconut and ginger, never disappoint.
Says Rory: “The key to any successful restaurant is simple: amazing food, amazing service and a warm, relaxed atmosphere where you can drink with friends. Our menu lends itself to a sharing experience. It’s fine-dining, without the stiff three-course meal.”
Sounds like a winning combination to us!
