About the restaurant La Mouette (seagull in French), is situated on Sea Point’s Regent Road in a welcoming Tudor-style manor house, with a relaxing, yet elegant atmosphere. The fresh and flavourful dishes concocted by chef Henry Vigar epitomise modern French cuisine with a hint of Mediterranean flavours. The fact that fellow chefs George Jardine and Pete Goffe-Wood rate it among Cape Town’s best restaurants is just another, er, feather in the seagull’s cap.
The menu’s tasty, well-balanced offerings are a paean to spring: croquettes and sweetcorn soup to begin; followed by house-made ricotta gnocchi or heirloom potato carpaccio. Options for the fourth course are ratatouille; locally caught line fish or ostrich fan fillet; followed by a decadent chocolate-and-raspberry dessert. Sounds heavenly, and for just R345! The wine-pairing option, for R620, accentuates the courses perfectly.
