The beauty of art is on display on First Thursdays at Norval Foundation in the southern suburbs.
The special Free entry on First Thursdays
About the museum Norval Foundation is one of Cape Town’s premier art destinations, situated in the southern suburbs, away from the busy CBD and V&A Waterfront. This quiet location gives visitors the space to really consider the art, and introspect, as well as take in its exquisite setting in fynbos, vineyards and the mountain beyond. It’s a wonderful way to lose hours in a day. Bringing the essence of First Thursdays to Tokai, Norval Foundation (in partnership with Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages) is now offering free admission on the first Thursday of every month. Insider info From 24 August 2019 until 23 March 2020, internationally acclaimed South African artist William Kentridge is showcasing a range of new and historical artworks produced over the past two decades – all of which embody the artist’s engagement with sculpture.
Lauded in a wide variety of mediums – drawing, film, theatre and opera production – Kentridge is known for exploring themes of colonialism and apartheid in his work (which has been displayed in some of the world’s most prominent museums including, Museum of Modern Art in New York and Musée du Louvre in Paris), but this exhibition at Norval Foundation – Why Should I Hesitate? Sculpture – looks at three dimensionality, a cornerstone of sculpture.
