All the tranquil beauty of The Overberg is on display at this idyllic farm, nestled in the Klein River valley. Surrounded by rolling hills and green meadows where farm animals graze, and game roams free, the lush farmlands are watered by natural mountain springs.
There are 16 cosy cottages spread across the 440-hectare property, each of which are warmed by wood-burning fireplaces, and imbued with a pared-down rustic charm that makes this scenic spot a wonderful winter getaway – no matter the occasion.
In addition to the natural beauty and tranquil surrounds, the estate’s hands-on hosts are warm, generous and accommodating, while the acclaimed Manor House Restaurant – praised in the 2019 Gourmet Guide’s Top 75 restaurants in SA – offers delectable modern-country comfort cooking prepared by head chef Marc Robert and his talented team.
A special stay
From 1 May 2019 until 31 July 2019, visitors to the farm can enjoy a discounted rate of R850 per room per night (minimum two nights over weekends), complete with a bottle of local red wine, and wood for your very own crackling indoor fire.
All of the cottages have comfortable bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a stoep with beautiful views of the mountains or meadows. All are equipped with tea- and coffee-making facilities (complete with home-baked rusks!) as well as mini-bar fridges – and wood-burning fireplaces (with unlimited firewood) that will make you want to stay forever.
While you’re there…
…warm up with a walk on one of the many fynbos trails, before enjoying a wine-tasting at the nearby Raka Winery or a sunset cruise on the river. The Klein River Cheese Factory is a lovely spot for an alfresco picnic lunch and stocking up on cheese, while the neighbouring town of Hermanus is a top whale-watching destination (especially during season: June to December).
