High Tea at the Mount Nelson

High Tea at the Mount Nelson

This historic hotel is an appropriately regal setting for a scrumptious and sumptuous afternoon tea.

Leisurely, luscious and decidedly luxurious, high tea at the Nellie (now known as the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel) can be taken in the lounge, on the spacious terrace or down in the garden around the fountain. The formal yet leisurely ambience is conducive to enjoying the superb food and beautiful surrounds.

Morning tea

is a smaller version of the afternoon one but just as spectacular. It consists of small eats such as egg-mayo and cucumber finger sandwiches as well as savoury croissants and mini-wraps. For the sweet-toothed, there are scones, brownies, milk tarts, choc-chip cookies and chocolate croissants.

Afternoon tea

is an impressive spread of delicacies served on the Windsor Table and includes rich cheese cakes, macaroons, freshly baked chocolate cake and lemon meringue, as well as savoury treats such as roast beef-and-rocket and salmon sandwiches. No wonder it costs significantly more.

Evening tea

is a delicious spread of savoury treats which includes cuts of cold meats, salad, a scrumptious cheese board with artisanal breads as well as some fried goods such as empanadas. For small tasty desserts there are some cakes and scones served with jam and cream.

AND ANOTHER THING…

Included in the high tea price is bottomless coffee and hot chocolate as well as a variety of teas, including hibiscus, mixed berry, Earl Grey Blue Flower, Oriental spice and so many more – so you can also make it an enjoyable day of tea-tasting. The experienced waiters present your tea in see-through tea pots and let you know how long the tea needs to brew before you take your first sip.

Insider tip If tea’s your thing, you might also want to try Tea by the Sea at the 12 Apostles.
