Rich in history and culture, and surrounded by majestic mountains and nature reserves, Stellenbosch boasts an abundance of gourmand offerings you’ll want to add to your bucket list immediately! One such experience is Quoin Rock’s Masterclass & Tasting Journey.
A serene sanctuary on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains, Quoin Rock Wine Estate is home to the critically acclaimed Gåte Restaurant, recently named 2019 Global Restaurant of the Year at The World Luxury Restaurant Awards.
It’s here where culinary enthusiasts are invited to join head chef Nicole Loubser (formerly La Colombe, The Test Kitchen and Michelin-starred JAN in Nice, France) and her extremely talented team in an interactive molecular cooking masterclass, where you’ll learn exactly what it takes to create an award-winning menu from those who know it best.
Cook with the pros
Upon arrival, you’ll receive a branded Gåte flat cap and apron, complete with a glass of MCC before embarking on an informative cellar tour. Then, once looking the part, you will be taught how to create a skillful selection of signature dishes from the Journey Around the World menu in the restaurant’s state-of-the-art-kitchen.
Inspired by the flavours of 14 countries that are skillfully combined with classic South African cuisine, the menu boasts dishes presented as Italy, France, Spain, Canada, Austria, Ukraine, Vietnam, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan, Greece, UK and Namibia.
Expect to cook cuisines such as octopus with rice paper and teriyaki; fried chicken with popcorn and a sweetcorn espuma; upstream salmon with maple syrup and bacon dashi; pork with mushrooms and raspberry caviar; Gruyère cheese with melon sorbet and melba toast, and lavender panna cotta and chamomile – to name a few.
A Winelands experience
After your cooking masterclass, you’ll get to savour the fruits of your labour with a sumptuous six-course tasting lunch, complete with paired wine, overlooking the magnificent mountain range and sweeping vineyard beyond.
Let’s get cooking!
Please note The masterclasses take place on 5 February 2020, 1 April 2020, and 6 May 2020, therefore booking requests can only be made for these dates.
