Flick up your collar, and get ready to do some Elvis-style hip-swivelling… Retroscope Pop-up Cinema is bringing the 1950s and 60s back with these monthly drive-in evenings. To create the vibe, there’ll be classic and muscle cars on display courtesy of 8-Crate, so movie-watchers are encouraged to dress up (there’ll be a prize for the best-dressed).

What’s showing

Elvis fans will be thrilled at the prospect of watching The King in all his swivel-hipped glory in Viva Las Vegas on 23 September.

First come, first parked – and how it all works

At a cost of R250 per car, you’re allowed an unlimited number of passengers. (But don’t go overboard on cramming everybody in; you’ll want decent reclining room for your drive-in experience.)

Arrive early so that the parking marshals can guide you to the parking bay most suitable for your vehicle. (eg. SUVs will be in the back rows, smaller cars towards the front). The venue can accommodate 120 cars, but no motorcycles are permitted at these events.

And that’s not all

Once you’ve secured your parking spot, get in on the pre-screening activities: massage at the movies, pop-up art, and eating and drinking at one of the food stalls. In addition to Marley Coffee, Wahine Food Truck and Samson’s Biltong, there’ll be popcorn for sale with a range of homemade, all-natural seasonings.

Good cause

Pop-up Cinema is donating 25% of all ticket proceeds to the Salesian Institute, which provides education, shelter and emotional support to at-risks youths, as well as the venue for their Retroscope movie nights.

Please note In case of disagreeable weather, the event(s) will be postponed and ticketholders will be notified of the changes.
