A Safari In the Suburbs With These Wine Farm Game Drives

A game drive in the ’burbs!

Signal Gun Game Drives
Signal Gun Game Drives Signal Gun

There’s no need to fly across the country (or spend two days driving) to see some wildlife. Just off Vissershok Road in Durbanville is Signal Gun wine farm, which takes nature lovers on scenic weekend drives to the adjacent Hoogeberg Hill and neighbouring game camp.

An open 10-seater vehicle follows a set route past various vantage points with not-your-run-of-the-mill views of Stellenbosch, Strand, Simon’s Town, Table Mountain and Robben Island, to name but a few. Along the way, you’ll also encounter a variety of game, including black wildebeest, springbok, zebra, grey rhebok, bontebok, dassies and tortoises, not to mention hawks and fish eagles among the birdlife.

Game drives take place over weekends, and cost R120 per person, with a morning and an afternoon session of approximately 90 minutes each. If you’d prefer to do a weekday drive, you can call the farm and arrange it. All drives are weather-dependent and need to be booked in advance.
