Like high tea and Sunday roast, brunch is more than a meal; it’s a grand tradition, where people take time off from their busy schedules to enjoy excellent food with good company in wonderful surrounds. So, where better to enjoy this wonderfully refined ritual than at one of Cape Town’s premier properties, Cape Grace Hotel?
The property’s flagship restaurant, Signal, is the venue for the weekly Sunday brunch table, where guests can enjoy a bountiful buffet, with first-class service and a postcard-perfect waterside setting completing the picture.
A sumptuous Sunday brunch at Cape Grace
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who see brunch as a late breakfast, and those who see it as an early lunch. Thankfully, Cape Grace has both groups covered with a diverse selection of savoury platters and iconic breakfast dishes:
- salmon blinis
- fresh, shucked West Coast oysters
- freshly baked bread and pastries
- home-made granola
- fruit platters
- freshly squeezed juices
- local cheeses, jams and pâtés
- a range of salads
The main course, prepared by Cape Grace’s chef Ryan Shell (formerly of Haute Cabrière in Franschhoek) changes weekly, but usually includes classic breakfast offerings, such as flapjacks and eggs benedict, as well as hearty lunch dishes such as kabeljou, ribeye steak and mushroom risotto or pasta. Dessert offerings include a selection of home-made macarons and chocolate tonka tarts, to name a few, courtesy of the in-house pastry team.
Of course, another thing that separates brunch from breakfast is bubbly! What better way to start your meal than with a mimosa in hand. Cape Grace’s extensive wine menu features over 100 local wines, all of which are on offer along with beer and cocktails (including iconic brunch cocktail, the Bloody Mary). Marlvin Gwese, Signal’s sommelier, is always on-hand to recommend wine-pairings.
The elegant decor and breathtaking marina views combined with excellent service and, of course, a wonderful brunch buffet, ensure that the grand tradition of Sunday brunch becomes a weekly highlight.
