A picture-perfect pedal along the Promenade and beyond.
Looking for a novel way to start your day? Why not hire a tandem bicycle (with your partner, bestie or kid) and take a gentle ride to your favourite spot, soaking up the fresh air and the sights and sounds of a new day in Cape Town as you go. (If you’re less of an early bird and would prefer a sunset cycle, that’s also an option.)
How it works
These fabulous freewheeling experiences are offered by Atlantic Outlook, also known for its hikes and kayaking tours along the Atlantic Seaboard. For the tandem rides, choose your route and your stops (for snacks, a meal or photos) within a two-and-a-half-hour time slot, setting off from the base at Granger Bay at the Waterfront and going as far as Bantry Bay if you like. (For the sunset cruise, a three-hour time slot allows you to get to Camps Bay.)
The retro tandem bikes, complete with an old-school bell on the handlebar, are decidedly eye-catching. And there’s no need to dress in head-to-toe lycra – on a tandem bike, you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
More than just a cycle
Waterbabies will relish the option to combine a two-hour kayak along the Atlantic Seaboard (join the dolphins, seals, penguins and other sea creatures) with a tandem ride along the Promenade (with breakfast or coffee wherever you choose to go). Carbon-friendly sightseeing has never been this easy or cool!
A full-day exploration of the coastline on your tandem bike, from Mouille Point to Bakoven, is also offered, stopping in at stunning beaches and coves along the way for a dip in the sea or a picnic on the beach.
Good to know Children between 8 and 18 years are welcome to join the ride, partnering with an adult. Food, drink and snacks are not included in the price.
