One of the most historic (and breathtakingly beautiful) wine estates in the Franschhoek valley, Grande Provence is reminiscent of a French countryside escape, with a slice of homespun luxurious comfort thrown in.
Known for its sweeping vineyards, accolade-accruing restaurant and wonderful wine-tasting facilities, the estate is a veritable hole in one: a stylish spot to rest your head after a day spent exploring the village (a mere five minutes away), sipping top-drawer wines, or wandering around the estate.
The Owner’s Cottage
With five individually decorated rooms, The Owner’s Cottage is a stylish and intimate space that accommodates 10 people. Available to rent as an exclusive use guesthouse, or on a per-room-basis, it’s the ultimate home-away-from-home – complete with a pool, spacious lounge, dining room, garden and daily housekeeping.
There are four luxurious en-suite bedrooms, and one deluxe suite, each equipped with a minibar and coffee facilities, as well as a TV, DVD player and wi-fi. And, should you need it, there is also access to a guest computer, although we recommend that you stay unconnected to the outside world, and immerse yourself in the majesty of the surrounds.
This season, the estate is offering guests a wonderful Winter Heartland offer…
Also called The Honeymoon Suite, Angels is on the ground floor and comes complete with a semi-private garden, indoor fireplace, king-sized bed, a luxurious en-suite bathroom, and a comfortable private lounge area.

A winelands experience
Included in the room rate is a wonderful farm-style breakfast and a delectable three-course dinner at the estate’s esteemed restaurant. Guests also have full access to complimentary wine-tasting, and a tour of the on-site gallery and sculpture garden, both of which showcase some of South Africa’s finest established and emerging artists.
Those in need of some pampering might like to book an in-room massage… Or, if you feel like a dose of culture, coffee or a bout of shopping, venture into the village, a five-minute drive away.
With such wonderful accommodation, an abundance of activities and a magnificent country setting, the wine estate really is a grand(e) escape.
Good to know Families travelling with children may only rent the cottage on an exclusive-use basis, as bed & breakfast bookings for families with children under 12 years are not permitted.
