Historic charm, sumptuous lodgings, warm service and tranquil surrounds at this three-centuries-old estate in Stellenbosch.
After a fire severely damaged this three-century-old hotel in May 2017, this spectacular wine farm has emerged more beautiful than ever, with exquisitely refurbished rooms, a spa that knocks the socks off even the most well-heeled resorts in Europe, three dining venues with their own distinctive characters, a tasting room, and some of the most breathtaking views in the land.
Lush gardens and rolling vineyards surround the estate, with the picturesque Jonkershoek mountains forming a dramatic backdrop and evoking an inescapable sense of countryside tranquillity. And yet, its close proximity to Stellenbosch central means guests have the best of both worlds.

Dining at Lanzerac
Lanzerac is home to the immaculate Manor Kitchen, one of three restaurants on the estate, and certainly the most dazzling, with its eye-catching chandeliers, oversized leaded windows and lofty proportions. Each morning, the restaurant is a hive of activity when the bountiful breakfast buffet opens for service, after which beautifully crafted classical dishes are available to order for dinner or Sunday lunch.
For a more casual experience, the Lanzerac Deli serves all-day breakfasts, homemade breads, pastries, sandwiches, local cheeses and charcuterie platters. And, should you be in the mood for a more festive atmosphere, there’s Taphuis: a bar that is beautifully decorated in an array of vintage pieces, serving gourmet pub grub beside a roaring fireplace in winter, or outdoors on the terrace in summer.
There’s also the moody Craven Lounge, which offers gourmet small plates and boasts an extensive selection of the finest local and international spirits, a curated wine list, and an impressive cigar menu.
Relax and unwind
The spa at Lanzerac Estate offers some of the best vistas (and facilities) in the business – all from the comfort of the spa’s relaxation area. The overarching attention to detail – from the exquisite design and location to the service and offerings – will leave you feeling contained, cosseted and utterly content.
There are eight state-of-the-art treatment rooms, including a NeoQi Mediq Cocoon, mist room and an experience shower, and spa guests are invited to make use of the heated pool, bubbling Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, while the fitness room is reserved for hotel guests only. There’s even a Vitality Corner for wholesome post-treatment juices, salads and smoothies.
Experience and explore
Lanzerac sits in the foothills of the Jonkershoek Valley, granting easy access to the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve and the smaller Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve. Guests can immerse themselves in the beauty of the region with guided walks and bike rides in the reserve, or explore the history of Stellenbosch with a guided walking tour that focuses on the culture and architecture of the town. Also included in your stay is a complimentary wine-tasting in The Lanzerac Tasting Room and a tour of the winery and where the world’s first pinotage was produced and bottled.
With all this and more, it’s no wonder Lanzerac is considered a dream destination for locals and out-of-towners alike.
