Dubbed the “jewel of the Western Cape”, De Hoop Nature Reserve is a 34 000-hectare conservancy, where miles of untouched nature, billowing sand dunes, and unencumbered sea views set the scene for some of the best whale-watching in the world!
Cradled in this expansive bay of natural beauty lies Lekkerwater Beach Lodge, an upscale seaside escape that promises a level of privacy and exclusivity from which to soak up your next-level beach safari.
Meaning “good water” in Afrikaans, Lekkerwater’s drawcard is undoubtedly its unrivalled seaside setting. Ensconced in a blanket of fynbos-covered dunes, the lodge blends seamlessly with its environment: a five-kilometre-long private beach offering the kind of beauty you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in the world.
Crashing waves, the smell of the ocean, flaming sunsets and possible sightings of whales and dolphins set the scene for a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
In keeping with its pristine backdrop, each of the six individual off-grid suites are utterly comfortable, while upholding the integrity of the setting – you won’t find TVs or air-conditioners here. The luxury is in the spectacular setting – where guests are encouraged to relax and embrace life’s cherished and simple pleasures.

- en-suite bathrooms with a shower
- indoor fireplace in each room
- private sea-facing deck in each suite
- open-plan shared lounge, bar and dining area in the main lodge

While you’re there
So how do you fill your days so far from civilisation? During summer, we recommend taking a leisurely stroll along the beach before enjoying a dip in a tidal pool and a picnic on a secluded sand dune.
When the mercury drops, pull up a seat on the ocean-facing deck and whale-spot to your heart’s content with a glass of fine local wine in your hand (season is from July to November).
There are also Lekkerwater’s unique and informative land-based marine-safari experiences that take guests on coastal walks to explore the rockpools and intertidal ecosystems, spotting cetaceans offshore as you go.
Lekkerwater lies in the heart of the majestic Cape Floral Kingdom, so extensive biodiversity is a given.
History buffs should put their names down for the paleontology talks and demonstrations, led by the small team of passionate and highly knowledgeable naturalists.
Whether you choose to lie back and let the ocean-facing setting wash over you, or you decide to go and explore the magnificent coastline, you’re guaranteed to make lifetime memories at Lekkerwater Beach Lodge.
