The Post House: A Reimagined Boutique Hotel in Greyton
The epitome of easygoing elegance.
By Kent Cloete • 09 October 2018
A short hour-and-a-half drive from Cape Town lies the small town of Greyton, a charming village that has changed little since its establishment in 1854, despite becoming a prominent tourist destination over the past four decades.
Dubbed South Africa’s “Little England”, it’s home to a beautiful nature reserve, old-world architecture, a slew of antique and junkshops and, of course, a collection of enchanting spots to stay – the most renowned of which must be The Post House.

You may have heard of it, since it’s one of the oldest buildings in Greyton, dating as far back as 1860 when it operated as a trading post. It’s seen several owners, the most recent of whom are John and Janet Higginson, who took over in 2018, and have breathed new life into its walls. A former model and pastry chef, Janet brings a unique set of skills to the table, as does John, a property developer.
Reimagined as a luxurious boutique hotel with an easy but modern style, complete with a beautifully restored colonial style bar, a private pool, on-site restaurant, pub and trendy coffee shop selling Deluxe coffee, The Post House offers all-round comfort – all you really need for a restful weekend getaway.
Country chic

Like stepping into a passage between past and present, The Post House’s fascinating history is palpable in its architecture, which is perfectly juxtaposed with the contemporary decor and furnishings evident in the sixteen newly renovated rooms (with all the comforts of modern amenities).
Each has been individually decorated, and range in size and facilities, but the contemporary-cool interior style is consistent throughout, with bright pops of colour and a warm, comfortable atmosphere. We love the planet-friendly Healing Earth toiletries in each room (and that biodegradable products are used to clean the bathrooms).
