Laidback days of water-fuelled fun.
If messing about on a lagoon appeals, then Coot Club outside Stanford is your ideal weekend getaway. Three brand-new fresh and light boathouses have been added to the comfortable family accommodation on the Klein River estuary looking out on uninterrupted views across the water to the Maanschynkop mountains.
Easy-breezy living
It’s a conservation wonderland, abundant birdlife flitting among the fynbos and in the 400-year-old milkwood forest that surrounds the stone cottages and historic Spookhuis. The friendly waters of the estuary are ideal for kayaking, SUP boarding, sailing, swimming, and exploring all day long, and the lawns and swimming pools of Coot Club are a natural playground. Only a step away are dunes fringing the Walker Bay Nature Reserve, notable for being a favourite Southern Right whale nursery from July to November.
The lodgings
With wood walls lining tin-roof exteriors, the three new boathouses are perfect for fuss-free holidays spent in and out of the water. Doors open wide onto the views from comfortable living rooms and open-plan kitchens. Self-catering here is a breeze, although breakfasts at the Clubhouse are included and other simple meals can also be booked there.
