The villas offer effortless indoor-outdoor living, opening onto pool decks with bed-like loungers, and various alfresco dining spots. Charcoal-hued Maison Noir is filled with striking artworks; Villa Verte’s bedrooms sport gorgeous SA floral wallpapers. Furnishings are elegantly contemporary, showcasing natural materials, with special surprises (like a sunken bath) alongside hi-tech touches.

Executive chef Malika van Heerden takes care of meals; each villa has its own in-kitchen dining area where a daily “harvest table” breakfast is served. Lunch and dinner are available on request.

The two-hectare gardens encompass meditation lawns, koi ponds, five healing gardens cultivated by Cherise Viljoen (formerly of Kirstenbosch), a natural plunge pool in a forest glade, an outdoor yoga deck and trails leading onto the mountain and up to a waterfall.

With menus designed around produce from the vegetable, fruit and herb gardens, the food, too, is thoughtful and engaging; meals are intimate and seasonal, and no two days are the same. You could even join the chef for a forage before dinner, or visit the hives with the beekeeper.
