Surrounded by endless nature, these rectangular cocoons at Kolkol Mountain Lodge are every traveller's dream.
Just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town, sweeping views of the Babylonstoren Mountains and the impossibly peaceful sounds of nature set the scene for this secluded getaway.
Run by passionate owners Rudi and Karen Oosthuyse, KolKol Mountain Lodge is a luxurious retreat that appeals discerning (nature-loving) travellers seeking rest and relaxation in stunning surrounds.
In addition to nine existing cabins, the three recently introduced Fynbos Pods hidden in the mountains absolutely steal the show. Designed and built by Rudi himself, the picture-perfect pods are not merely a magnificent feat of structural engineering, but also a breathtaking place to rest your head in sumptuous comfort.
A perfect marriage of natural materials and futuristic design, the wood-clad rectangular cocoons hover off the ground and blend seamlessly with their habitat. Inside, a neutral colour scheme echoes nature’s palette, with effortless open-plan living spaces maximising the beauty beyond.
Boasting 180-degree panoramas of rolling hills and towering mountains, the private deck has a braai area on one side and an outdoor lounge (complete with an outdoor shower and wooden shutters) on the other. Fresh mountain air, unadulterated tranquillity, the delicious whiff of braai smoke and a wood-fired hot tub waiting to be sunken into… what more could you ask for?
Each of the three pods – Pecan, Witwater and Firelilly – sleep two guests, and feature everything you need for a picture-perfect (self-catering) stay in nature.

While you’re there…
This scenic spot is the perfect place to do absolutely nothing, but if you’re looking to explore the area, there’s a three-kilometre hiking trail, nearby swimming dam and a mountain-biking trail. The Kogelberg Nature Reserve is a short drive away, as are the nearby towns of Hermanus and Stanford.
