Situated on a working wine farm in the Franschhoek valley, La Chataigne is a tranquil hideaway with all the creature comforts discerning travellers desire.
Near a tree, by a river, there’s a cottage in the woods. Well, there are five cottages actually… and they’re surrounded by orchards and vineyards… and mountains in the distance.
A boutique working wine farm in the beautiful Franschhoek valley, La Chataigne is home to five stylish self-catering cottages in a wonderfully intimate and relaxed environment.
Owned by Swedish-born Richard Parkfelt and his wife Julie – who have a passion for all things wine and decor – the original workers’ quarters and stables have been stylishly renovated and turned into monastic (and very chic) self-catering lodgings, perfect for all tastes and occasions. We particularly love the good-quality glassware and kitchen appliances (Smeg, no less), which elevate a great weekend away to one you won’t soon forget.
La Chataigne is the ideal spot to unwind, walk, play boules, chill by the pool and soak up the beauty of the surroundings. And, if you’re looking for a buzz, the town’s main drag – brimming with top restaurants, shops and galleries – is a mere five-minute drive away.
The lodgings
Guests have the choice of staying in one of five self-catering cottages spread across the farm. There are three riverside cottages: the newly renovated luxury one bedroom cottage Chestnut (sleeps two), family style 2 bedroom cottage’s Marron and Kastanje (each sleep four), and two Scandi-chic luxury one bedroom stable cottages, Blanc and Noir, which epitomise contemporary comfort and style.
