Stanford Valley Country Lodge: Cosy Self-Catering Cottages

Stanford Valley Guest Farm Stanford

Rolling hills, verdant pastures and a mountain in its back yard make this beautiful farm in the Klein River Valley an ideal getaway from the city.

Surrounded by treed hills and lush meadows where horses graze and springbokkies roam, this idyllic farm in the Klein River Valley spans 480 hectares of unadulterated natural beauty, and is home to a small collection of white-washed farm cottages. Meandering mountain paths, fynbos-dotted plains, horse paddocks and a farm dam are just some of the features that make it the perfect country escape for nature-loving couples, friends and families.

Stanford Valley Guest House Gardens

In addition to the natural beauty and tranquil surrounds, the estate’s hands-on owners Reinder and Elsabe Nauta are among the most charming we’ve met. Their warm and generous hospitality has trickled down to the rest of the team, notably host Sarah Dix and Rodgers Chiredzero, who went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed for the duration of our stay.

Most of the cottages are self-catering, but the onsite Manor House Restaurant serves excellent country cooking where breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at an additional cost. The perfect option should you tire of braaing on your private stoep…

Stanford Valley Guest Farm Manor House Restaurant

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the acclaimed on-site Manor House Restaurant (rated in Gourmet Guide’s 2019 Top 75 restaurants in SA) – where head chef Janine van der Nest and her team create modern-country dishes.

Manor House Restaurant Menu

The curated menu changes regularly, according to season and availability of produce but this winter, guests can expect the likes of waterblommetjie risotto, smoked snoek samoosas and boerpampoen pasta pillows to start, followed by crispy cauliflower dumplings, braised lamb and slow-roasted Cluver and Jack pork belly for mains, with naartjie marmalade malva; dark chocolate fondant and hibiscus pear with cinnamon pavlova and whipped cream for dessert.
