InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town: A V&A Waterfront Destination
A haven of elegance where mountains, ocean and city meet.
By Inside Guide • 19 August 2026
An anchor of the V&A Waterfront from the day it was opened by Nelson Mandela back in 1997, the transformation of this iconic hotel into the InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town has created a haven of elegance and comfort. The top-to-toe redesign is inspired by the meeting of mountains, ocean and city, combining contemporary design with African heritage and framing soul-stirring views of Table Mountain across the bustling harbour. With two main restaurants, a spa, pool deck and bar, and exclusive club lounge, it’s an escape you can sink deeply into, while still being connected to the heartbeat of the V&A Waterfront and the city.
A room with a view

Captivating views of the ocean, harbour and V&A Waterfront from the 306 guestrooms, including 40 suites, catch the ever-changing light from sunrise to sunset. Organic curving lines in the plush furnishings echo the Cape landscapes, and swirling carpet designs evoke the wash of ocean foam on the beach, while there’s a sensual comfort to everything from the premium linen to the marble bathrooms. Pillow menus and turn-down rituals are the final details that turn a stay into an indulgent spoil.

Family favourites

Families travelling with children quickly discover the Planet Trekkers kids’ club, where there’s a raft of supervised activities in a warm and welcoming space. Kids also love the thrills of spotting seals surfacing in the harbour (or lazing on the wharf right in front of the hotel), and mornings spent poolside. There are family rooms with two queen beds, an option to choose interleading Classic rooms, or one-bedroom suites that connect with twin rooms.
Stylish dining at Flint & Fennel

A table in the conservatory section of Flint & Fennel (the beautifully stylish signature restaurant) frames one of the most iconic views in the Cape. Table Mountain’s captivating silhouette embraces gliding yachts, working fishing boats, with entrancing glimpses of seals surfacing, and wide waters reflecting sunlight and twinkling lights at night. Breakfast here is a cornucopia of a buffet that it’s tempting to linger over all morning: fresh fruits and chia pots, sushi and charcuterie, a plethora of hot cooked options… even waffles and sprinkles. Beautiful decor sets the scene for celebratory dining, whatever the occasion, from sociable family-style gatherings over whole-grilled spatchcock chicken and side dishes, to date-night elegance with contemporary flair, and whispers of herbs and fynbos expressing the flavours of the Cape.
