Spa InterContinental Table Bay: Refined Wellness at the Waterfront

Part of the ambitious reimagining of the iconic hotel that is now the InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town, the Spa InterContinental offers an inviting new wellness destination in the city. Dressed in a soothing palette of mushroom and biscuit hues, balanced with warm greys and creamy, understated neutrals, with touches of pale wood, frosted glass and elegant black marble, it’s a calming sanctuary within the buzzing V&A Waterfront.

Enter serenity

The spa has five curated wellness salons, including a private couples suite with an adjoining steam shower, a mani-pedi area and a post-treatment relaxation room, with curtained-off daybeds, fluffy blankets and a beautiful candlelit feature wall.

The pièce de résistance, however, is the authentic hammam, with sleek, curved walls of mosaic tiling and a ceiling of twinkling blue lights, adjoined by two private scrub rooms.

Spa guests also have access to the hotel’s Solandra Restaurant.

Global and local

The spa offering draws on global wellness rituals and skincare brands, combining them with touches of the Cape, particularly in the use of fynbos-infused oils. The changing room is thoughtfully stocked by Swedish luxury brand Byredo, known for blending Scandinavian minimalism with influences from founder Ben Gorham’s Indian heritage.

The facial rituals are a stand-out, using eco-conscious Comfort Zone products from Italy (incorporating the Sublime Skin Solutions peels) and advanced Swiss medi-luxe treatments by Dr Levy that harness plant stem cells, hot-and-cold contrast therapy and microcurrent lifting and toning.

On the menu

The massage menu ranges from traditional Swedish to hot-stone and Terres d’Afrique tri-touch massage, while body treatments use Namibian myrrh oil and omumbiri butter. There are three soothing hammam rituals, incorporating body polishing, scalp massage and a massage that envelops you in clouds of foam.

There are also inspired “spa pairings” that combine a choice of treatments with lunch or dinner at Flint & Fennel restaurant afterwards. There’s even a “Mini Spa” – a manicure, pedicure or facial experience for little guests (between five and 12 years).

The spa has a monthly special offer, perfect for trying out something different – in May, for example, it’s a Comfort Zone facial combined with a revitalising foot treatment.

The signature experience

Spa InterContinental Table Bay has four 90-minute signature rituals – Atlantic Awakening, Golden Glow, Silence and Stone, and Nocturna. They include time in the hammam and their own special touches (such as breathwork or sound therapy), and end with a soothing herbal tea in the relaxation room.

We opted for the Nocturna – an immersive, beautifully guided experience, consisting of an acupressure massage and steam session with essential oils, and starting and ending with sound therapy (using Tibetan singing bowls), all designed for total rest and deep sleep.
