STIL: A Contemporary Escape in Montagu Where Style + Serenity Converge

STIL Montagu Lead

The perfect space to slow down.

Set against the Langeberg Mountains, the Klein Karoo town of Montagu has both pastoral and high-street appeal, with vineyards and orchards punctuating the landscape, and a town centre lined with shops, cafés and art galleries.

Offering an undeniable sense of escapism and tranquillity, it’s no wonder Hanno and Martly Calitz decided to create STIL – a dreamy escape for those wishing to experience the majesty of the surrounds in a beautiful spot.

Ultimate serenity

The house, a modern architectural gem that brings to mind the simplicity of Japanese Zen, is designed for two guests, offering a wonderfully intimate place for couples to kick back and enjoy each other’s company in privacy and style. (There is space for one young child with prior arrangement, and you can bring your fur babies, as STIL is proudly pet-friendly.)

The clean-lined, monotone interiors – white-painted walls, terracotta floors and wooden accents – are contemporary yet soft-edged, with a wonderful indoor-outdoor flow. Add the soft sounds of the nearby Keisie River, a gorgeous garden and pool, and STIL is tranquillity personified.

Artful endeavours

Hanno and Martly’s love of art is evident; they’ve transformed the surrounding wild-grassed grounds (5 000 square metres) into an ever-evolving sculpture garden (featuring several intricate works by renowned South African artist Anton Smit). It fits seamlessly with the house’s look and feel, making it a dream destination for those who love architecture, art and design.

A curated experience

Guest experience is at the heart of STIL’s offering. As such, you have the option of being left to your own devices in complete privacy, or opt for a curated itinerary to make the most of your time in Montagu.

This can include guided outdoor activities, bubbly and wine tastings, day trips to surrounding towns, pre-ordered picnics, breakfasts and meal boxes. There is also a small team of beauty therapists available, offering body treatments for relaxation and rejuvenation.
