Taj Hotels Launches Three New Bespoke Bush Lodges

When Taj turns their focus to the call of the wild, you can be sure of a distinct African wilderness experience steeped in their authentic brand of thoughtful hospitality. With the launch this year of three new lodges within the Greater Kruger National Park, the group (Indian Hotels Company Limited) adds another layer to their guests’ South African experience. After exploring Cape Town from the elegant and heritage-infused Taj Cape Town in the heart of the Mother City, you can seamlessly extend your stay with a wildlife experience at one of their intimate, luxurious and eco-friendly bush lodges in the Balule Nature Reserve.

Wilderness destination

Set along the Olifants River, Balule Nature Reserve is situated on th northwestern boundary of the Kruger National Park and spans 42 000 hectares of pristine bushveld. The vast unfenced stretch of protected wilderness is part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area, meaning wildlife roams freely following seasonal migration patterns, with a rich diversity of species to be seen. Elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hyena and hippo are commonly seen, with sightings of lion, white and black rhino. More rarely you’ll be rewarded with a glimpse of leopard, cheetah and wild dog, and even civet and honey badger.

New bush lodges

The intimate new lodges include a tented camp, bush lodge and river lodge, each with a restaurant, boma, J Wellness Circle spa and pool. “Guests who are already familiar with Taj will have an idea of what to expect: exquisite décor, outstanding service, and sumptuous food – all underscored by our signature, Tajness, hospitality – with an authentic wildlife safari twist,” says Mark Wernich, Taj Cluster GM Africa and Business Development Director Africa for sub-Saharan Africa.

Taj Bush Lodge and Taj River Lodge are scheduled to open in March 2026. The 30-suite Taj Hilltop Tented Camp will open later in the year.

More in the pipeline

Looking ahead, the group is planning to add more African wilderness destinations to their portfolio. “We will expand our infrastructure in East Africa to support our sub-Saharan portfolio, making it possible for travellers to explore and experience the best of the region seamlessly,” says Wernich. Expect new lodges to be announced in Kenya’s Maasai Mara and the Serengeti in Tanzania, as well as Botswana and Zambia.
