Bistro Sixteen82: An Inspiring Women’s Month Dinner at Steenberg Wine Farm

Women’s month at Steenberg is all about celebrating bold women… women like their pioneering founder, the redoubtable Catharina Ras, who settled on the Constantia Valley farm back in 1682 to become the first female landowner in the Cape; and like their keynote speaker at this year’s dinner, leading cardiologist Professor Blanche Cupido, who’ll be exploring the theme of resilience for the modern woman; while yet another inspiring woman, chef Kerry Kilpin, creates a superb menu of mouth-watering shared plates and refined mains for this memorable occasion.

In an evening that is all about celebrating the strength, perseverance and versatility of the modern woman, Professor Cupido will share personal insights on balancing the pressure of high-stakes environments with self-care and boundary setting, offering a fresh, authentic perspective on what it means to rise, reset and thrive. Her powerful storytelling is matched by equally inspired cuisine as the evening flows through an exceptional three-course dinner.

A menu of bold flavours

There’s nothing like a superb succession of flavours to motivate stirring conversation and spark the imagination. The feast starts off with three starters to share: Suan La pickled fish with tom yum vinaigrette, cabbage and shimeji mushrooms; baked brie with popping candy, grape gel, goat’s cheese, verjuice and macadamia nuts; and beef pot stickers with red cabbage and mangetout salsa, sesame, ginger vinaigrette and aioli.

For mains choose between roasted pork belly with parsnip and pear purée, tender greens, pickled fennel relish and green apple jus with the Steenberg Merlot 2022; or a vegetarian charred onion, mushroom and spinach risotto with pumpkin seed and chilli crunch.

And luckily for dessert no choices are necessary, you get to share them all. Dip into a dark chocolate marquise, a baked cheesecake, chocolate truffles and yoghurt panna cotta.
