Cape Town Art Fair 2027: In Acts of Alchemy

The art scene in the Mother City is world-class, especially during February when collectors, curators and artists from all over the world gather for the Cape Town Art Fair – and everything that happens around it. The curatorial concept for the 14th edition of the fair (19 – 21 February 2027) is In Acts of Alchemy, exploring alchemy’s unwavering belief in the possibilities of change. It’s a lens to consider what transformation can look like and what shifts are possible across materials and identities.

Curating for change

The alchemy starts with the curatorial process, with submissions for potential exhibitors open until 2 October 2026. Over the next few months, the selection of galleries, artists and artworks takes place, as well as the development of the wide and varied programme, which will include conversations, connections and cross-cultural exchange.

The 14th edition features three core sections (Main, Lookout, and Editions), three curated sections (Tomorrows/Today, SOLO, and Generations), and Capsule, a section dedicated to conscious design and craft.

A city-wide art month

While the fair itself is a must-visit (we recommend getting more than a one-day pass to enjoy the booths, workshops, talks, tours etc on offer), the whole of February is Art Month in Cape Town and there’s a lot more going on across the city. Galleries put out their best stuff and there are wonderful exhibitions, from private galleries to the Iziko SA National Gallery.
