Celebrate Chenin: Perdeberg Cellars’ First-Ever Chenin Festival
Join other wine-lovers for good food, great wine and a chilled vibe at the first-ever Chenin Festival at Perdeberg Cellars in Paarl.
By Inside Guide • 14 October 2019
Over the past few years, South African chenin blanc has made huge strides in the international wine scene, and to celebrate the brilliant chenins our country is producing, Perdeberg Cellars invites wine lovers to the first-ever Celebrate Chenin Festival in Paarl.
From serious barrel-fermented whites and fruity summer flavours to MCCs and dessert wines, this festival is a celebration of everything the cultivar has to offer! Participating wineries include Alleé Bleue, Alvi’s Drift, Badsberg, Darling Cellars, Delheim, Durbanville Hills, Opstal, Perdeberg Wines, Raats Family Wines, Riebeek Cellars, Slanghoek Wine Cellar, Spier, Stellenbosch Vineyards, Stellenrust Wine Estate, Tierhoek Wines, Villiera Wines and Vrede en Lust.
For serious lovers of chenin, there will be two tutored tasting sessions, courtesy of the Chenin Blanc Association, at 11.30am and 2pm respectively. Tickets for these tastings (R100) should be purchased via Webtickets, and only 20 persons can be accommodated per session.
Wine aside
Besides the ample wine-tasting opportunities, there’ll be plenty of good food on the day, designed with the chenin palate in mind. As such, various food trucks will be offering festival-goers choices such as sushi and oysters to complement the light and summery wine. The estate’s very own restaurant – Eat@Perderberg – will also be serving delicious meals on the day. Each festival ticket includes a R60 token to be used for food, so guests will be spoilt for choice!
