Put your best hats forward at Cellars-Hohenort this leap day for a bonkers high tea celebration in a secret garden location.
The 29th of February comes around but once every four years – which makes it a day worthy of celebration, especially since it falls on a Saturday this year! Grab your wonkiest hat and head to The Cellars-Hohenort in Constantia for an excitement-filled high tea, hosted in association with homeware brand, Carrol Boyes.
In addition to Alice in Wonderland-themed party games and chocolate treats, guests can expect a best-dressed competition amid the lush nine-acre gardens of this well-known yet discreet boutique hotel.
High tea in the garden
This wonderfully bonkers affair will have you feeling like you’ve fallen down a rabbit hole into Wonderland (minus the villainous antics of the Queen of Hearts). There’s a Mad Hatter dress theme, with prizes for the smallest, largest and maddest hats, and tables will be adorned with beaded traditional African craft sculptures by Monkeybiz, Carrol Boyes’ charity beneficiary.
After a refreshing welcome drink, high tea will be served from generously laden tables full of chocolate-themed treats (including delicious Carrol Boyes chocolate) and guests will get to play some fabulous outdoor party games, such as hat-throwing, pin the Cheshire Cat Smile and Queen of Cards Flamingo Croquet (no flamingos will be harmed during this event!).
Just before you head back to reality, each guest will be gifted with a surprise treat to round off a perfect Leap Day!
Good to know The Marine in Hermanus and The Plettenberg in Plettenberg Bay will also be hosting Leap Day Mad Hatter’s Tea Parties in association with Carrol Boyes.
