Culture Wine Bar: A “Horror Movie” Halloween Bash on Bree Street

When you climb the stairs from Bree Street and turn right into Culture Wine Bar, expect the unexpected… Stocked with the most wicked selection of South African and international wines, you’re likely to stumble upon more than bottled treasures on the spookiest day of the year. Every year on Halloween, Matt and Roxanne Manning transform their beloved wine bar into a gothic and spine-tinglingly thrilling adventure… and for this year’s event the theme is Horror Movie!

A spooktacular Halloween bash

It all started in 2016 when the couple threw a party for 40 friends in their innercity studio flat… It became an annual tradition, which grew so much that in 2021 they moved it to Culture – and opened it to everyone. A thrilling night of boos, booze and spooky vibes, it’s a time to eat, drink and be scary…

This year they are turning up the fear factor with an ode to the horror movie… you can take it literally and be Dracula, Hannibal Lecter, a man-eating plant, a Hitchcock blonde, or the psycho with the knife. Or interpret it figuratively and come as your personal horror movie: a Monday hangover, the taxman knocking at your door, a too-talkative Uber driver, a Tinder date who looks nothing like their profile picture. Come dressed to kill and you could win the coveted title of Best Dressed!

Terrifyingly good wines

One thing that won’t horrify you is the walkabout wine-tasting upstairs in the Wine Library, where you can sip vintages from some frightfully good producers, and where the scariest thing of all, an empty glass, is a distant memory.

Put on your most hair-raising Halloween attire, pair your fear with a glass of liquid courage from the cellar, say cheers to your fears, and dance the darkness away to live beats and DJ vibes. It promises to be a horrifically good time.

Good to know The ticket is for admission, a walkabout wine-tasting and live music. You can book a booth or a table separately and order eats from the bar menu. No under 18s.
