Durbanville Hills Harvest Tour: Wining, Dining + Blending
It’s harvest time! Get in on the action at Durbanville Hills.
If you’ve always been curious about how wine is made, why not visit Durbanville Hills Winery to learn about the fascinating journey from vine to wine? For the duration of February and March (harvest season), the cellar is opening its doors for an after-hours and behind-the-scenes peek at the busiest and most exciting time of the year.
Get the juice

The tour kicks off with a celebratory glass of Durbanville Hills’ sparkling wine, before heading into the cellar to see, sniff, taste and hear how it’s all done. You’ll taste the fermenting juice (“must”) directly from the tanks and sample upcoming vintages from the barrels, just like the winemakers do. The state-of-the-art cellar handles some 8 000 tons of grapes in a harvest season, and is truly a sight to behold.
Blend in

Once you’ve tasted the raw material, you’ll be guided through a wine-blending experience where you’ll learn why certain cultivars and wine styles are better friends than others, and appreciate the skill of finding the perfect balance. Pay attention, because you’ll get to blend and cork your own wine to take home.
Enjoy the wine

After you’ve seen how it’s all done, stay for a meal (included in the tour price). For evening visitors, a two-course dinner in the excellent Tangram restaurant is paired with wines from the premium Collector’s Reserve range. For weekend day visitors, enjoy an informal tapas-style lunch at The Olive Grove with a bottle of wine. As you raise a glass, remember to toast the winemakers who brought it to fruition.

Note The tour does not include a visit to the vineyards or grape-picking.
