You might know it as Kamers Vol Geskenke… But, these days, it goes by the name of Kamers/Makers and, like previous years, brings shoppers an unprecedented mind-bustingly creative shopping experience.
This year’s event is taking place at Jan Van Riebeeck High School on Kloof Street – a central venue that’ll turn into a shopping mecca from 16 to 19 March 2019, when more than 120 of the best local “makers” proffer their wares.
If you’ve ever been to any Kamers/Makers events, you’ll know that participating exhibitors are not your run-of-the-mill designers and crafters; they have been hand-picked from over 600 applicants by the Kamers/Makers team for their unique, rare and “perfectly imperfect” items of fashion, jewellery, art, lighting, decor, and more. You’ll be able to find everything from hand-carved wooden bow ties, hand-turned wine-barrel furniture, handcrafted porcelain jewellery, and even hand-spun scarves, from a variety of Kamers/Makers veterans, and some exciting newbies.
The event is a double win: it provides a platform for young designers to establish themselves in the competitive market, while also giving the public a chance to buy rare, one-of-a-kind pieces. And if you’re a Kamers/Makers veteran, you’ll know that it’s more than just a shopping experience; there’s always delicious food, good wine and great live music.
